OMAHA, Nebraska – John D. Diesing Sr. and John D. Diesing Jr. – the former and current President and Chairman of the College World Series of Omaha, Inc. – will be honored as a NCAA-CWS of Omaha, Inc. "All Star" during the opening weekend of the 2025 NCAA Men's College World Series at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. A permanent plaque at the stadium will commemorate their lasting contributions to the event.
The Diesings will be the fifth and sixth honorees in the All-Star program, joining past inductees: the late Rod Dedeaux (USC), the late Augie Garrido (Cal State Fullerton and Texas), Skip Bertman (LSU), and Dennis Poppe (longtime NCAA administrator for Division I baseball and the MCWS).
The MCWS recognition committee, made up of representatives of the Men's College World Series partner organizations, selects an All-Star to recognize outstanding contributions that enhance the spirit of college baseball at the Division I level.
"In the long and glorious history of the Men's College World Series, no name has ever been more associated with the series than the Diesing family," said Dave Keilitz, former ABCA Executive Director. "Their contributions are immeasurable. As we celebrate the 75th year of the College World Series in Omaha, it is only fitting that the Diesings receive the great honor of being recipients of the All-Star Award."
John D. Diesing, Sr., known to most as Jack Sr., created College World Series of Omaha, Inc., in 1967 as the local non-profit organizing committee and acted as Chairman of the Board for more than 30 years.
Under his leadership, the MCWS thrived and became a beloved tradition in Omaha. His son, Jack Diesing Jr., succeeded him as President in 1988 and became Chairman in 2009. He played a key role in securing a 25-year contract with the NCAA to keep the championship in Omaha through 2036.
The NCAA's deep respect for Diesing's contribution to the success of the event is evident in its endorsement of the JOHN D. DIESING, SR. AWARD®, given annually since 1999 by CWS of Omaha, Inc. to the most outstanding player of the Series. Players earning the award receive a miniature bronze replica of
The Road to Omaha sculpture.
John D. Diesing, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the age of 92.
"It's no secret that the Diesing name is forever linked to the Men's College World Series," said Anthony Holman, NCAA vice president of championships. "What Jack, Sr., established in 1967 was something unprecedented at the time and is still very unique. It's no exaggeration to say without the leadership of Jack Diesing, Sr. and Jack Diesing, Jr., over the last 60 years, it would be very difficult to imagine the MCWS having the type of success in Omaha that it has had."
The Diesings' name will be added to a bronze plaque inside the stadium located near Gate 1.
